Upon acceptance to the workshop, you will receive an electronic course-reader with the required and suggested readings for the week. These are designed to offer context for the week’s activities. You will also be using these during discussions with scholars so be prepared to bring them with you. In addition to secondary readings, we’ve compiled primary source documents intended for classroom use. Throughout the week, we will offer discussion time to brainstorm classroom strategies and potential lessons with your fellow Summer Scholars. Following the summer workshop, we invite teachers to develop curriculum and share it with their fellow teachers – creating a database of primary and secondary sources along with literacy and inquiry strategies. You can view sample curriculum projects here. We expect NEH Summer Scholars to be fully engaged in all aspects of the project from the pre-readings to the final curriculum projects.
